Project Reality On ArmA 2

Postby Spinkyone » 12 Mar 2010, 18:07

News released this morning that PR is coming to ArmA 2; however still in Beta stages.

Could be worth looking into given that ArmA 2 has dropped in price and PR is apparently updating game modes / theatres that were lacking in ArmA 2. Also should stop those of you snubbing PR on graphics and frustrating engine limitations.

I thought you had an Arma 2 clan, which "appreciated" you.

Some constructive comments for once on this and more than smiley face posts (wankers).

Advantages of PR over vanilla ArmA 2:
-Is implementing a kit system as for regualr PR to stop the 50vs50 snipers you'd find in ArmA.
-Is concentrating on player vs player which is a good thing as the AI on ArmA 2 is still dodgy
-Is focused on making the game more accessible especially for teamwork.

Advantages of PR on ArmA 2 over BF2:
-Larger player limit dependant on server but 50vs50 is a sensible absolute maximum.
-Map / terrain size is huge in comparison but the main thing is that detail isn't lost as terrain size goes up unlike BF2. In theory no more floating on top of hills.
-Considerable graphical improvements.
-Physics systems and semi destructible environments are improved over BF2.
-Realistic kit system which should be fully configurable
-Damage models are improved and not as limited.

Limitations of ArmA 2:
-Animation systems are typically no-where near as advanced as BF2 for weapons but character animations are generally improved.
-Network code is shite and can create lag issues but is mainly linked to AI at times / shit servers for ArmA 2.
-Performance is still dodgy but is fully configurable and in theory the Afghan environment will be less demanding.

Advantages of PR on BF2:
-Numbers as it is far more accessible
-Performance to some extent
-Server requirements and stability is still better than ArmA 2
-Server cost and availability
